Meghalaya IT department mulls tie-up with Ramkrishna Mission [Guwahati] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government is mulling a tie-up with Ramkrishna Mission by connecting its information technology (IT) department to the organization. The aim of this initiative, according to state sports and youth affairs minister Zenith Sangma, is to introduce Microsoft certification courses for students to facilitate them with computer education.

Addressing the 57th convocation ceremony for computer trainees at the Mission's computer institute in Shillong, Sangma advised students to "gather knowledge from the surroundings and study sincerely so that certificates are not mere pieces of paper." With the implementation of the tie-up, students of the state will, for the first time, avail direct certification in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access from the Microsoft headquarters in the US, while studying at Ramakrishna Mission's Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Shillong.

RKM Secretary Swami Achyuteshananda said, since the computer training unit of the Ramakrishna Mission's Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Shillong has trained 25,000 students of the region in the last twelve years, Microsoft authorities in the US have approached the institute to provide Microsoft certification using online examinations.

State home minister Roshan Warjri, who also attended the convocation, applauded the contributions of Ramakrishna Mission in the fields of social service, health, education and relief.

"Computer skills are necessary in the employment sector. In this competitive age, getting a job is not easy. Developing skills is the only way one can get employment and job satisfaction," she said.

Six meritorious students were awarded computers, while nearly 1,500 students were presented with certificates at the convocation.
