(Sea Technology Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) McMurdo Group Completes Acquisition of Techno-Sciences McMurdo Group (Valbonne, France) has acquired Techno-Sciences Inc. (TSi), a provider of SAR satellite ground stations, integrated emergency response center systems and coastal surveillance solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TSi's Beltsville, Maryland, location will become the U.S. headquarters for McMurdo Group. TSi has helped develop the COSPAS-SARSAT international satellitebased SAR program.



New Wind Farm Vessel Designs OSD-IMT (Dundee, Scotland) has developed a range of innovative new designs of offshore wind-farm service operation vessels.

The 1,350-deadweight tonnage IMT972 SOV is powered by two Steerprop (Rauma, Finland) SP25 or equal 1,900-kilowatt-electric, fixed-pitch azimuth propulsion units. There is also an option for fitting two 2.5-megawatt Voith (Heidenheim, Germany) Turbo main thrusters. Frequency-controlled, electric motor-driven CPP thruster units are fitted forward, comprising two tunnel-type bow thrusters and one retractable bow thruster.


Marine Academy Relocates To Support Renewables Industry Offshore Marine Academy (OMA), which provides bespoke training courses within the offshore renewables industry, has announced its relocation and opening of a new operating base at the prestigious Wynyard Business Park, Teesside, in Northeast England.

OMA has been based in Bristol since 2010 but is moving north to support the growing number of renewables companies that are established in the area.

Completion of Relief Drilling Campaign LDD, an Acteon (Norwich, England) company, has completed drilling monopile foundations for RWE Innogy's (Essen, Germany) Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm in north Wales. LDD has been working on the project since 2011, when it designed, built and delivered one of the world's largest reverse circulation drill rigs, the LD5000, within 10 months. The LD5000 is capable of drilling up to 8 meters.

DNV GL Opens Office in South China DNV GL (Hovik, Norway) opened a new office in Guangzhou, China, to support business growth in the area.

Located in downtown Guangzhou, the new, expanded DNV GL office will serve as a center for the company's operations in South China. Headed by Area Manager Gu Xiaoli, DNV GL South China covers the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan.

Proteus Delivers Phase 1 Of Abu Dhabi Land/Marine Mapping Proteus (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) delivered ahead of schedule the first phase of a fine-scale terrestrial and marine land use/land cover and habitat mapping project for Abu Dhabi. Proteus completed Phase 1, roughly one third of the project, in nine months.

The three-phase, multimillion-dollar project will ultimately include 60,000 square kilometers of land area and the coastal marine environment down to the 15-meter contour.

Recognition for Cobham Life Support's Survivor+ Survivor+, Cobham (Wimborne, England) Life Support's wearable personal overboard survival system, has received a certificate of compliance from Lloyd's Register (London, England).

To achieve the required standard, Survivor+ successfully completed all the materials and performance testing required under the International Maritime Organization's Life-Saving Appliance Code, Section II.

Imtech Marine Extends VS AT Coverage Imtech Marine (Rotterdam, Netherlands) expanded its global Ku-band VSAT network with additional coverage above Europe. Next to theTelstar 12 satellite and the Intelsat 21, the Eutelsat 10A has been added.

With this extra beam, Imtech Marine offers improved coverage for its customers in Europe. Three beams reduce the chance that an antenna would be blocked by obstacles on board a vessel, and continuous Internet access is secured.

Iridium Proposes to Enhance GMDSS Coverage and Redundancy Iridium Communications Inc. (McLean, Virginia) submitted an application to the International Maritime Organization for the provision of mobile satellite communications in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). If the application is approved, Iridium could begin providing GMDSS services in late 2015.

Iridium's entrance into GMDSS communications will be supported by an array of maritime communications systems, giving the industry the option of a single, affordable communications terminal to satisfy both safety and business communications requirements.

Expanded Range of ROVs Meridian Ocean Services (Portsmouth, Rhode Island) has added two Saab Seaeye (Fareham, England) Lynx ROVs to its Falcon fleet to undertake a wider range of deeper inspection tasks.

The company has created a suite of rapidly deployable ROV packages comprising Saab Seaeye Lynx and Falcons set in small-footprint containerized systems ready for speedy deployment from a 150-foot vessel.

The Lynx will expand the range of inspection roles in deeper platform work, around buoys, artificial reefs, and for cleaning and diver support.

Open-Style Training Courses Around the World Teledyne RESON (Slangerup, Denmark) has announced a new training course program called the Teledyne RESON Academy, which includes open-style training at global locations and new training courses.

The course offerings include industry standard two-day SeaBat training for surveyors or engineers, SeaBat AUV training and PDS2000 multibeam or dredge software training. Besides these standard courses, the company offers bespoke trainings.

Reef Subsea Restructures Company Mel Fitzgerald, chairman of Reef Subsea (Bergen, Norway) announced a reorganization to create three independent companies, with separate management and independent strategies.

The business will now be organized in three entities to be known as Reef Subsea, X-Subsea and Technocean Subsea. The existing senior management will continue to lead the three new entities, delivering consistent expertise in the niche markets.

SEACON Receives Queen's Award SEACON (Europe) Ltd. (Great Yarmouth, England), part of the SEA CON Group (El Cajon, California), was named a winner of a Queen's Award for international trade. This is one of the highest accolades available to celebrate success in international trade for businesses.

The award was made in recognition of continued growth and commitment to international customers, including progress, not just in revenue, but in customer relations and overall business development. The company saw exports in the European market grow from more than £1 million in 2010 to more than £2.6 million in 2012 and global sales rise from £9.1 million to more than £12.6 million in the same period.

Seatronics Invests to Stay Ahead In ROV Tooling Rental Market Seatronics (Aberdeen, Scotland) has invested more than £1 million in technologies, sensors and tools from Tritech International Ltd. (Aberdeen). Many of the products will enhance ROV tooling capabilities, which are available through recently acquired Acteon Company, J2 Subsea (Aberdeen).

As part of international growth plans for J2 Subsea, the company is adding to their stock of dredge pumps by purchasing multiple Merlin, Super Zipjet and AZ10 suction anchor pumps.

DP System, Autopilot for Icebreaker Baltika Navis Engineering (Vantaa, Finland) has delivered the NavDP4000 system and Autopilot AP4000 for the icebreaking rescue and emergency vessel Baltika.

The DP control system can be set to automatic and semiautomatic modes, with speed and drift angle predetermined, while its DP algorithms also take into account minimizing the effect of the hull's asymmetry.

Designed by Aker Arctic (Helsinki, Finland), Baltika was built by the Arctech shipyard in Helsinki.

Rig Twin-Tow Delivered to Singapore Fairmount Marine (Rotterdam, Netherlands) tugs Fairmount Summit and Fairmount Alpine have towed rig ENSCO (Falls Church, Virginia) 5006 safely from Cyprus to Singapore. The Fairmount twins towed the rig more than 13,000 miles. Before the departure, both tugs performed anchor handling work for the rig.
