Software piracy costs South Africa USD 385mn in 2013 [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The commercial value of unlicensed software in South Africa declined to USD 385mn in 2013 from USD 564mn in 2011, according to a survey conducted by Business Software Alliance (BSA), in partnership with International Data Corporation (IDC), quoted by IT News Africa. At the same time, software piracy in South Africa fell to 34% last year from 35% in 2011.



However, South Africa's unlicensed software installation rate was the lowest in Africa, with Egypt (62%), Nigeria (81%), Kenya (78%), and Tunisia (75%) having the highest rates of pirate software.
