Construction giant is boosted by 'prestige' Pounds 75m Anfield deal ; COMMERCIAL PROPERTY [Birmingham Post (England)](Birmingham Post (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUPPORT services giant Carillion has won a high-profile contract worth circa Pounds 75 million to expand the Main Stand at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium. The appointment follows a decision in October 2012 by the club not to build a brand a new stadium but instead remain in situ and expand Anfield. Wolverhampton firm Carillion has been appointed preferred bidder for the project which will also include public realm improvements. Work on the project is expected to start later this year, subject to planning consent, and is expected to take about 20 months. The proposals would see the capacity of the Main Stand rise by approximately 8,300, taking the overall capacity of Anfield to around 54,000. Richard Howson, chief executive at the construction company, said: "We believe that being selected for this prestigious project reflects Carillion's reputation for high standards of quality, health and safety and sustainability. We look forward to working closely with Liverpool Football Club to create new world-class facilities at its famous Anfield Stadium." The builder, which employs around 750 at its headquarters offices in Wolverhampton, says it will involve an innovative programme to reduce the impact of the construction work by keeping as much as possible of the existing main stand in use throughout the work. The announcement came as Carillion issued a trading statement revealing its current order book stands at Pounds 18.5 billion. In a trading statement for the past six months Carillion said its revenue figure would, as expected, be slightly lower but it was on track to resume revenue growth for the year as a whole despite 'challenging' market conditions. New order intake remained strong, and was worth about Pounds 2.7 billion for the first half, thanks to a string of major building projects in the Middle East and Pounds 1.7 billion of support services deals in the UK. As a result the order book now stands at around Pounds 18.5 billion, while its pipeline of possible orders was almost twice as big, at around Pounds 38 billion. As well as the Liverpool Main Stand project, another major first half success was winning the Pounds 175 million Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route Public Private Partnership roadbuilding project In its statement, Carillion said: "Overall, the group continues to perform in line with our expectations and remains on track to resume revenue growth in 2014, despite market conditions remaining challenging. "New order intake has remained strong and we continue to win good quality work, in line with our selective approach, which remains central to our strategy. "Therefore, with a strong order book and a substantial pipeline of contract opportunities, our expectations for the full year and our medium-term targets for growth, remain unchanged."
