Navidea to Webcast Investor Briefing on Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Head & Neck Cancers July 8, 2014

DUBLIN, Ohio --(Business Wire)--

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE MKT: NAVB), a biopharmaceutical company focused on precision diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, today announced it will host a webcast of an investor briefing to discuss the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in head and neck cancers on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 8:00 to 9:00 am EDT in New York City.

Invited medical expert, Stephen Y. Lai, MD, PhD, FACS, Associate Professor, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will present and field questions regarding his experiences and views on head and neck cancer and the use of Lymphoseek® (Technetium Tc99m Tilmanocept) Injection for sentinel lymph node biopsies in the evaluation and treatment of oral cavity cancers. Navidea Interim CEO Michael Goldberg, MD will provide the Company's perspective following the recent sNDA approval of Lymphoseek.

The standard of care for certain head and neck cancers has historically involved the removal of 30 or more lymph nodes. In Navidea's Phase 3 study of Lymphoseek in head and neck cancers of the oral cavity, multiple level nodal dissections of patients with cancer-positive lymph nodes led to an average removal of 38 lymph nodes per patient, whereas Lymphoseek on average would have led to the removal of approximately 4 lymph nodes, representing a substantial reduction in potential morbidity for patients with head and neck cancer undergoing sentinel lymph node biopsy. This data contributed to Lymphoseek becoming the first and only FDA-approved radiopharmaceutical for guiding sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in head and neck cancer patients with clinically node negative squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity following approval in June 2014.

The investor briefing will be webcast live, and may be accessed by visiting the "Investors" section of the Company's website, http://ir.navidea.com or this link: http://lifesci.rampard.com/20140708. An archived version of the webcast can be found on Navida's website for 30 days following the event. To attend in person, please contact Veronica X. Molina, LifeSci Advisors for seating availability at 646-597-6987 or by email at:[email protected].

Lymphoseek Indication and Important Safety Information

Lymphoseek (technetium Tc 99m tilmanocept) Injection is indicated, using a hand-held gamma counter, for:

  • Lymphatic mapping to assist in the localization of lymph nodes draining a primary tumor site in patients with breast cancer or melanoma.
  • Guiding sentinel lymph node biopsy, in patients with clinically node negative squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity.

Important Safety Information

In clinical trials with Lymphoseek, no serious hypersensitivity reactions were reported, however Lymphoseek may pose a risk of such reactions due to its chemical similarity to dextran. Serious hypersensitivity reactions have been associated with dextran and modified forms of dextran (such as iron dextran drugs).

Prior to the administration of Lymphoseek, patients should be asked about previous hypersensitivity reactions to drugs, in particular dextran and modified forms of dextran. Resuscitation equipment and trained personnel should be available at the time of Lymphoseek administration, and patients observed for signs or symptoms of hypersensitivity following injection.

Any radiation-emitting product may increase the risk for cancer. Adhere to dose recommendations and ensure safe handling to minimize the risk for excessive radiation exposure to patients or health care workers. In clinical trials, no patients experienced serious adverse reactions and the most common adverse reactions were injection site irritation and/or pain (<1%).
