Video Conferencing Plan for Isles

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A VIDEO Conferencing (VC) Project is being extended to Zanzibar following an agreement between the Union Ministry of Communication, Science & Technology and 'Inventions Technologies' company to install equipment in the islands.

During a brief signing ceremony held at the Zanzibar Ministry of Infrastructure and Communication building at Kisauni, the Minister for Science, Professor Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, said that video conferencing technology is a milestone in development.

"President Ali Mohammed Shein may no longer need to make phone calls to contact executives in regions. He will be able to talk and discuss with them through video clearly," said Mnyaa.

Flanked by Zanzibar's Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Communication, Mr Issa Haji Ussi, and other senior executives from the government, Mnyaa said the equipment would be fixed in six areas in Zanzibar including the Islands' State House, and each head office in each of the five regions.

Mnyaa said that a similar exercise has been going on in the Mainland since 2012, thanks to the World Bank for support through its loan to Tanzania for the project which includes Internet Protocol and Multiprotocol label Switching Network (IP/MPLS).

Mr Samwel Muro, the Managing Director of Inventions Technologies, promised to have the work done in the next two months and that it is an important project that would help speed up development.
