A nonprofit organization founded by former firefighters and community leaders, San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation provides the means, beyond City budgets, to introduce or improve tools, equipment and technology for first responders to better perform the tasks required to keep citizens safe from the ravages of fire and natural disasters.

"We hear firsthand accounts about first responders losing technical resources or funding for necessary training and education," said Wendy Robinson, Executive Director of the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation. "This donation will provide lifesaving equipment and tools, such as pediatric rescue carriers, helicopter rescue equipment, communication tools and more to the firefighters that will be felt by every member of the community."

The donation from Cox Business (News - Alert) and San Diego Maazine was presented to the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation on Friday, June 27 during the San Diego Business Journal's Business Emergency Preparedness event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley.

"First responders are heroes of our region, and we were reminded yet again of their bravery during the May 2014 wildfires," said Larry Coval, Vice President of Cox Business. "It is important that we give back in a way that will support their safety while on the front lines protecting lives, homes and our communities throughout San Diego."
