Merrill Announces New CEO - Rusty Wiley To Succeed John Castro

ST. PAUL, Minn. --(Business Wire)--

Merrill Corporation (www.merrillcorp.com), a leading, worldwide provider of technology-enabled services announces James "Rusty" Wiley as CEO and a director of the Board effective July 1, 2014. Wiley comes to Merrill from IBM (News - Alert) Corporation, Somers, N.Y. which he joined in 1987. He most recently served as General Manager, Banking & Financial Services for IBM Corporation. During his tenure at IBM, Wiley served in numerous executive roles involving sales, consulting and general management including a Global Business Services Leadership role with significant international responsibilities. Prior to joining IBM he worked at EDS (News - Alert) Corporation in Sales and Marketing.

Rusty Wiley succeeds John Castro who, after 30 years as CEO, will retire as the Company's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Castro will continue to serve as a member of the Board and act in advisory role for a short period of time to assist in an orderly transition. "Rusty is a talented, proven executive that I've had the pleasure of recruiting to the team; he is ready and capable of continuing to enhance Merrill's success as an international company," said Castro.

"I'm impressed by the considerable progress that Merrill has made in transforming its business to eet the needs of our clients both today…and into the future," said Wiley. "That's not easy in such a fluid and dynamic marketplace. I'm excited to join the Merrill team and build on a rock solid foundation. I will be focused on the needs of our clients, employees and investors, and delivering superior client service and innovative solutions that both differentiate our Company and support the success of our customers."

Wiley earned his MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business, and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Minor in Computer Science from East Carolina University. Wiley plans to relocate to the Twin (News - Alert) Cities area with his wife Janie.

In addition to the appointment of Rusty Wiley as CEO, the Board has also selected James V. Continenza as Chairman of the Board replacing John Castro. Continenza has been a Lead Director with Merrill since 2013 and has been critical in guiding and developing the long-term strategy. "Rusty is the right person to lead Merrill forward and the Board and employees are excited about the future plans and next exciting chapter in our Company," said Continenza. "The Board is grateful for John's dedicated service and leadership, navigating Merrill through an ever changing technological landscape that has transformed the Company. We extend our best wishes to John and his family."

Castro has served in an Executive Leadership role since joining the Company in 1978 and has been a Board member since 1981. He was appointed CEO in 1984 and elected Chairman of the Board in 2002. Castro has overseen Merrill's growth into an international company with more than 5,000 employees serving 20,000 clients from 70 offices worldwide.

"It's been an amazing journey and I've been honored to serve with incredible and passionate people at every step of the way," said Castro. "Thanks to the commitment and innovation of our employees and their unwavering focus on our clients, Merrill is recognized as an acknowledged global leader positioned for long-term success."
