QRC Ladies Forum Ghabga on Friday [Peninsula, The (Qatar)]

(Peninsula, The (Qatar) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) Ladies Forum will organise a women-only charitable event — 'Charitable Ghabga' — next Friday at Four Seasons Hotel Doha's Al Mirqab Ballroom, in partnership with leading event organiser and marketing firm Design Creationz. The revenue of the event will go to QRC's poor family empowerment programme, which supports 1,500 families in Qatar.

The Ghabga, a Qatari tradition related to Ramadan, will involve an Iftar/Sohour dinner during which an innovative and unconventional fashion showcase will take place, with pieces donated for free by the designers as a contribution to the charity event. A luxurious Bentley will also be offered in the auction.

Expected to attract elite Qatari women and designers from top fashion brands in the Gulf region, the ceremony will display a cultural performance titled 'Contracts of the Heavens' as well as a short film about QRC, followed by distribution of symbolic gifts to those in attendance, who will not be limited to upper-class ladies, but will generally include female officials and professionals from different major Qatari institutions and corporations.

The Forum's chairwoman, Noura Al Dossari, said this is the first event to be organised by the Forum during Ramadan, using the efforts of its members and volunteers.

"It is a tradition in Gulf countries to hold group Ghabgas during Ramadan, where friends and relatives gather and socialise. Young men have their separate gatherings. In observance of this good habit, the Forum adopted the idea of the event, to bring women together in a charitable and volunteering context and to promote QRC's humanitarian activities," she said.

About the Forum's agenda for the year, Al Dossari said there are three major projects in focus locally and overseas — the social-psychological support programme for Syrian refugees in Zaatari camp in Jordan, the Central Africa relief programme, and the social and economic empowerment programme in Qatar.
