ANSI Holds Two U.S.-China SCCP Workshops in May, Plans for Seventh Workshop in June

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, June 20 -- The American National Standards Institute issued the following news release: The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) organized two workshops in May 2014 under the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA)-sponsored initiative the U.S.-China Standards and Conformity Assessment Cooperation Program (http://www.standardsportal.org/usa_en/toolbox/us_chinasccp.aspx) (SCCP). In service of this program, ANSI will organize a total of 20 workshops over three years, covering a wide range of sectors and issues related to standards and conformity assessment. The May workshops are the fifth and sixth workshops to be held in connection with the program.

In cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service (http://www.trade.gov/cs/), and various U.S. companies, ANSI held the "Sino-U.S. Transportation Safety and Earthquake Response Management Seminar and Expo" May 13-14 in Chengdu. The Seminar provided over 200 Chinese officials and experts with the opportunity to learn how transportation safety and earthquake response management are overseen in the U.S. by both government and industry. Participants discussed earthquake impacts on transportation, commercial vehicle safety, vehicle and heavy-lift response, and disaster specialty products, among other topics. The event also featured an expo of participating organizations and a site visit to the nearby facilities of ECI Metro of Caterpillar.

ANSI, in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service, and various U.S. companies organized through the American Rail Working Group (http://export.gov/china/doingbizinchina/industryinfo/transportation/eg_cn_051826.asp), hosted the "U.S.-China Heavy Haul Seminar" on May 16 in Beijing. The Seminar included panel discussions on heavy haul equipment and technology and rolling stock technology, heavy haul track structure and maintenance technology, and heavy haul train optimization control and operation. The seminar represented the first time U.S. heavy haul companies and Chinese railway officials and senior experts engaged in a face-to-face dialogue on heavy haul technologies in either the U.S. or China.

Looking ahead, ANSI is working with the U.S. Commercial Service and the Information Technology Industry Council (http://www.itic.org/) (ITI) to organize the next U.S.-China SCCP workshop on digital energy. The event will take place in Beijing on June 23.
