BRIEF: Edmond firefighter and EMT is recognized by national board [The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City :: ]

(Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 28--EDMOND -- Edmond firefighter Marcus Ferguson has been recognized for achieving 30 consecutive years as a nationally registered EMT.

The distinction, by the board of directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, is an honor held by few EMTs, Edmond fire officials said.

To maintain his status as a nationally registered EMT, Ferguson completed, on a biennial basis, a comprehensive recertification program for emergency medical technicians in America.

He not only completed courses to refresh his fundamental knowledge and skills but also attended a minimum of two hours a month of additional continuing education courses to advance his knowledge on new lifesaving skills.

Ferguson was nationally registered as an EMT in 1984 and has been serving Edmond since 1982. Prior to being a firefighter, Ferguson served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
