United States : Riverbed SteelApp ADC Enables Fusebill to Quickly and Cost-Effectively Grow its Cloud-Based Business with Just-in-Time Provisioning [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Riverbed Technology, the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced Fusebill is using Riverbed SteelAppTM products to cost-effectively grow its cloud-based business with just-in-time provisioning to handle spikes in demand of its services. SteelApp Traffic Manager and SteelApp Firewall (formerly Stingray) are part of Riverbed s #1 virtual application delivery controller (ADC) for scalable, secure and elastic delivery of enterprise, cloud and e-commerce applications. SteelApp s just-in-time elastic scalability helps Fusebill protect applications from security threats, simplify Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and reduce costs by using software to scale vs. overprovisioning data center hardware which often sits unused while consuming power and space.

Fusebill automates invoicing, billing and collections for subscription-based companies across many industry sectors including software as a service, digital media and communications. Traffic on Fusebill s site peaks at the beginning of the month when most of Fusebill s customers want bills and invoices sent out. Fusebill needed to build up enough infrastructure to handle first-of-the-month activities without having too many assets sitting idle the rest of the time.

Fusebill initially used another load balancing service to distribute traffic across the computing resources, but eventually needed capabilities such as scripting and Layer 7 support that weren t available in their previous deployment. Furthermore, since Fusebill accepts credit card payments, the company is subject to Payment Card Industry (PCI) regulations. One regulation requires a Web application firewall, which was also unavailable through NLBS.

When Fusebill made the decision to upgrade to an integrated solution with both web application firewall and advanced traffic management functionality, Greg Burwell, vice president of technology at Fusebill, evaluated products from Citrix and F5, as well as Riverbed SteelApp Traffic Manager. In addition to functionality and ease of use, price was a key consideration. Riverbed s unique approach automates the deployment, licensing and metering of application delivery services, making possible an ADC per application delivery model in which isolated resources and costs for ADC-as-a-Service can be allocated to each client application. This unique approach reduces costs and time to production while enabling rapid change and scale for data center applications.
