Network Critical Offers Packet Slicing to Keep the Network at Top Performance

BUFFALO, N.Y. --(Business Wire)--

Network Critical, a global innovator in the tap and packet broker market, today announced the release of packet slicing as a standard feature on the SmartNA-X modular product family. The SmartNA-X is a modular 1U platform integrating 1Gbps and 10Gbps interfaces providing network connectivity and visibility for a variety of tools that help manage and protect networks.

"A major quandary for network engineers is accessing real time data to effectively manage network performance and availability while protecting the privacy of network users. This is particularly relevant in service provider networks where customers require confidentiality in their phone, email and text conversations yet also expect highly available and reliable service," said Steve Watt, president at Layer 8. "As a team that is dedicated to providing the best possible VoIP solutions available, we can now securely send only the necessary information to our monitoring tools, saving us valuable resources to protect our service provider customers while ensuring network performance."

With packet slicing, network managers can cut out the payload of a packet only sending header and trailer information to an analysis device. This provides network managers the tools to keep the network at top performance while giving customers the confidence that their private conversations and messages are not being stored, sold or otherwise revealed. It also provides for more efficient utilization of the network analysis tools as tools are not required to accept, review and discard irrelevant packet information.

"Though tools must manage the entire packet, this often creates an unnecessary load, ultimately reducing the tool's capacity and effectiveness," said John Gill, vice president of sales at Network Critical. "By removing payload data from packets and leaving only the header information, the network monitoring switch can send more data across a given link to the tool. Adding packet slicing to our existin filtering, aggregation and our unique user interface provides the efficiency, flexibility, simplicity and maximum functionality with a value oriented pricing structure that our customers are looking for as they monitor their network."

Network Critical has received orders for the first SmartNA-X units with Packet Slicing through channel partner Layer 8 Solutions. Network Critical's SmartNA-X™ features a pioneering drag-n-drop user interface that allows data access to be configured in seconds with minimal risk of error. More conventional products use a mixture of command line interfaces (CLI) and clumsy user interfaces that can take hours to set up.

Having recently announced the addition of the SmartNA-X HD line to its product portfolio, Network Critical combines a simple to use and flexible aggregation and filtering platform, at unrivaled price points in the industry.
