BRIEF: Big Data symposium set for Wednesday at Oregon State Bar [The Oregonian, Portland, Ore. :: ]

(Oregonian (Portland, OR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 23--Policy-makers will dissect the future of Internet safety, fairness and privacy on Wednesday at the Oregon State Bar Association in Tigard.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced Monday that she is hosting a daylong symposium that includes representatives of Facebook, the Federal Trade Commission, and the attorney generals' offices of California and Missouri, among many others.

Questions on the agenda include: How might Oregonians better protect their privacy when their data is breached? How do you (and should you) craft an effective privacy "bill of rights" to help safeguard consumers online? How do you protect children's online data and information? Speakers include Nate Cardozo of the Electronic Frontier Foundation; Sheila Colclasure, of the marketing technology and services company Acxiom; and Sean B. Hoar, a former government cybercrimes prosecutor who recently joined the Portland law firm Davis Wright Tremaine.

The event (at 16037 S.W. Upper Boones Ferry Road, Tigard) is open to the public. Space is limited, so RSVPs are required.
