(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: Offices of realty firm Emaar MGF, which built the Commonwealth Games Village in Delhi, were on Thursday searched by Income Tax (IT) department sleuths on suspicion of tax evasion.

Sources said a team of I-T sleuths began the searches early on Thursday and covered about three premises of the company in the national capital region including Delhi and Gurgaon.

Confirming the development, a company spokesperson told TOI, "We wish to clarify that a routine survey was undertaken today by the IT Department at our office premises. As a responsible, law-abiding corporate house, we have been extending full cooperation." The statement said, "We wish to reiterate that the company always upholds the highest standards of corporate governance and follows all the laws of the land." The department, sources said, was checking some recent transaction statements of the firm during the operation. IT sleuths are learnt to have seized some documents from the various office premises of the company and the search is still on.
