BarWrite® Wins Global Legal Skills Award

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

At the final convocation of Global Legal Skills-9 in Verona, Italy, Conference Director Professor Mark Wojcik awarded pioneering New York City-based bar-prep program BarWrite® the 2014 Global Legal Skills Award for institutions. The Award signifies BarWrite's exemplary preparation of foreign lawyers and LLMs for the New York bar exam. BarWrite's president Mary Campbell Gallagher, J.D. (Harvard), Ph.D., notes the Award cites BarWrite's "early and thoughtful recognition" of the bar-exam preparation needs of foreign lawyers and LLMs.

Nearly half the candidates for the New York bar exam are foreign-trained, but their first-time pass-rate in July 2013 was only 46 per cent, markedly less than the 86 pr cent first-time rate for candidates with a three-year J.D. degree. BarWrite® engineers its programs and course materials to overcome that deficit. It focuses on mastery of specific frequently-tested principles of U.S. and New York law. Dr. Gallagher will report on her newest research at the January 2015 conference of the American Association of Law Schools (AALS), exploring factors that hinder foreign-trained candidates.

BarWrite® is a training company offering intensive large-group courses and coaching for the New York bar examination, legal writing, and legal English. Its path-breaking systems draw on Dr. Gallagher's study of law at Harvard Law School and her training in linguistics for the Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. BarWrite® trains students in New York City and worldwide. Dr. Gallagher is the author of highly-acclaimed study guides including Perform Your Best on the Bar Exam Performance Test (MPT) and CLE text Write Fast Legal Memos "Like a SportTM."
