UP 10% TV FEE HIKE [Mirror (UK)]

(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Millions of Sky TV customers will be hit with a price hike in September.

The satellite giant revealed monthly fees could jump by up to 10%.

A message on its website said: "Sky TV prices will increase on September 1. In accordance with their standard terms, your Sky TV package may rise by up to 10% in a minimum contract term." Sky said it would be writing to customers next month with further details.

It is believed the rise will be much less than 10%. Last year, Sky increased prices by 2.5%.

The move comes as Sky plugs a two-year free broadband offer for Sky Sports customers.

The step, a bid to prevent households switching to rival BT, is likely to mean Sky taking a hit on the cost. Sally Francis, of moneysavingexpert.com, said: "An up-to-10% price rise is a substantial increase, especially when some Sky TV packages can cost around Pounds 70 a month.

"Customers should be given plenty of warning before the increases hit - and be offered a way out if it becomes unaffordable." Sky said: "We work hard to keep any rises to a minimum, ensuring we continue to offer great value. We will be writing to customers in July outlining any changes."
