Tennessee Tech University Extends Reliable, Centrally Managed WLAN Throughout its Campus with Aerohive

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Aerohive Networks® (NYSE:HIVE), a leader in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud-managed mobile networking for the enterprise market, today announced that Tennessee Tech University, the only public technological university in Tennessee, continues its implementation of Aerohive's (News - Alert) wireless solutions. The university has been relying on Aerohive's scalable and reliable connectivity since 2011 for its growing student body and university staff.

News Facts

  • The state's only public technological university, Tennessee Tech University (TTU) is nationally ranked and offers more than 40 undergraduate and 20 graduate programs across six academic divisions. The university consists of 87 buildings on more than 200 acres and enrolls more than 11,700 students.
  • TTU began to see a growing student and employee population and needed to reevaluate its entire aging network infrastructure from the ground up, while ultimately cutting high IT costs and making its investments matter.
  • TTU chose Aerohive's cloud-managed Wi-Fi solutions, which with its controller-less architecture, would enable the large campus to quickly and cost-effectively scale without limitations. Additionally, because of the increased use of Apple (News - Alert) products by students and faculty on campus, Aerohive's Bonjour Gateway feature stood out for its Apple-friendly capabilities.
  • Aerohive's proprietary Bonjour Gateway (News - Alert) solution significantly simplifies the support of Apple-compatible devices at universities, making Apple services such as AirPrint, AirPlay and remote display with Apple TV usable across large networks, ideal for TT's on and off-campus classrooms in which Apple usage is dominant.
  • TTU classrooms also rely on mobile online learning environments, which allow students to log in to a virtual desktop using any device. Aerohive's resilient wireless network has played a key role in supporting this BYOD-friendly system while creating a secure learning environment and boosting student and professor productivity with high-performance connectivity.
  • The university also relies on Aerohive's branch routers for its traveling university administrators, athletic recruiters who require consistent connectivity and access to TTU resources even while on the road. With Aerohive BR100 Routers, TTU's network administrators can run a thousand remote office VPNs as easily as a single location while providing secure access to central resources. Not only does TTU's vast community of remote and traveling staff and administrators benefit, but also the simplified network management offered by Aerohive's HiveManager® has empowered the university's IT staff. They can now easily manage, monitor and control the network from a central location, enabling them to do their work without traveling across the campus.

Comments

"As the environment changes, we have to adapt to it. That's one of the nice things about Aerohive; we're not concerned at all about controllers, which limit how quickly we can grow a network," said Jerry Boyd, director of network services and operations at Tennessee Tech University. "Aerohive's controller-less architecture has allowed us to quickly and cost-effectively scale while keeping up with the connectivity needs of our exploding student population and staff."

"We are seeing faculty and student populations on the rise with our higher education customers. As a result, there is a market need for highly distributed and reliable networks both on and off campus for students and employees," said David Greene, chief marketing officer, Aerohive Networks (News - Alert). "Today's students are demanding BYOD support in order to learn most effectively in modern higher education. We're proud to help these institutions adapt and provide mobile-friendly education environments, while still ensuring a cost-effective yet highly efficient and secure networking system."
