(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) """PUNE: While billions of fans are looking forward to the biggest sporting event in the world - FIFA World Cup 2014 - anti-virus Major Quick Heal Technologies Limited warns that malware artists are webbing plans to turn soccer fans into victims through a fresh wave of virus attacks.

In fact, the company has already traced complaints of people duped in name of FIFA bookings and other information to fake websites. They warn of threat of virus such as malware and scams coming your way to attack your system by spurious websites and spam mails.  Sanjay Katkar, chief technology officer, Quick Heal Technologies, said, "The primary targets of attackers are fans who are traveling to Brazil, searching for tickets online, hotel reservations, and other information about World Cup 2014. We have received at least 8 to 9 per cent of complaint calls in our call centre regarding the malware virus. We detected the some fake websites in our research and division centre and discovered that FIFA has become a platform to spread virus attacks." Katkar added that scammers will even attract the fans on social networking websites.

"Another target group for attackers are followers of campaigns and promotional events surrounding the World Cup. This group usually falls prey to scams through fake free tickets and fake giveaways.

In most cases, these fans receive emails containing links to websites containing the 'free' ticket, or simply an attachment of the ticket. Clicking these links will either redirect them to a phishing website or websites that will drop a malware infection in the user's computer. And downloading any of these attachments makes this process even easier," cautioned Katkar.

Several phishing websites look deceivingly professional and legitimate. For a normal user, telling these fake sites from the original ones can be impossible or extremely difficult. "There are simple tips to be followed and the first is to treat every mail about FIFA 2014 with suspicion," he added.

stay on the ball    Treat every World Cup 2014 mail with suspicion, especially those about offers, prizes, lottery, and tickets Note that www.FIFA.com is the only authorised source from where you can get tickets for the event.

FIFA has not authorised any tickets as a part of any travel packages to Brazil or elsewhere.  With the event kicking off, tickets prices are soaring. watch out for fake advertisements.
