Transition Networks Executive to Speak at Light Reading's Inaugural Big Telecom Event

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--

Transition Networks Inc., the fiber access technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM: JCS), today announced that its VP of Product and Technology Development, Tom Savard, Ph.D., will speak on a panel at Light Reading's Inaugural Big Telecom Event, happening June 17-18, 2014 in Chicago.

On Tuesday, June 17, from 3:45 to 4:40, Savard will participate on a panel entitled "Carrier Ethernet & the Cloud." As more businesses move mission-critical applications and data into the cloud, they expect network services connecting them to that cloud to feature the same on-demand qualities, while retaining the reliability and availability for which Carrier Ethernet is known. This panel will look at how Carrier Ethernet services need to rapidly evolve to support flexible bandwidth models, and the changes telecom network operators must make to their edge infrastructure and service delivery processes.

Additional panel members include Mark Durrett (News - Alert), VP, corporate communications and market strategy for Overture Networks, Inc., Michael Kearns, CEO & founder of Amartus, Adam Saenger, VP of portfolio management for TW Telecom and Ricardo Torres, director of product marketing for VeEX. Carol Wilson, Light Reading editor-at-large, will moderate the panel.

"With the growth of the cloud and increasing adoption of Carrier Ethernet 2.0 services, the telecommuniations industry is rapidly changing," said Savard. "We're thrilled to be a part of this new event and look forward to a lively discussion with our peers and customers on the future role of Carrier Ethernet in the industry."

Located in booth #G2 (News - Alert) in the SDN & NFV Service Orchestration demo zone, Transition will be showcasing its software defined services (SDS) solution that helps service providers compete effectively today by facilitating the delivery of dynamic, on-demand, elastic services over today's CE 2.0 networks. Transition will demonstrate how its Converge™ service management solution allows dynamic programmability of the network through its complete, fully integrated northbound REST API. Booth visitors will have access to a live demonstration of the SDS orchestration solution and will be entered to win a GoPro (News - Alert) or an iPod Touch.

Products on display will include Transition's latest Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solutions, including its S3280 network interface device (NID), S4140 10GE NID and its S4224 access switch with 24 100/1000Mbps ports and 4 10GE uplinks. Also on display will be prototypes of Transition Networks' (News - Alert) highly-competitive next generation NID featuring support for Y.1564 (service activation) MPLS-TP, SOAM, E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree, ITU-T G.8031/ G.8032v2 and IEEE (News - Alert) 1588v2 (PTP).

Light Reading, in partnership with the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), will host the first BIG Telecom Event, that aggregates all the hottest areas across the telecom industry - including SDN/NFV and the carrier cloud, Ethernet, telco data centers, service orchestration, packet-optical transport, mobile backhaul, mobile network security, 4G/small cells, service provider IT, content management, and business services.
