Radisys, AirHop and Broadcom Deliver Integrated SON-Ready LTE Small Cell Solution

HILLSBORO, Ore. --(Business Wire)--

Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, and AirHop Communications, a developer of advanced RAN intelligence software, today announced the integration of AirHop's eSON™ software with Radisys' Trillium® LTE TOTALeNodeB™ solution and Broadcom (News - Alert) Corporation's BCM617xx Series small cell silicon. This integrated Self-Organizing Network (SON) solution for LTE and LTE-Advanced small cell networks allows mobile operators to quickly deploy interference management functionality across a broad customer base. Trial deployments of the integrated SON solution are underway with leading mobile operators.

Mobile operators are deploying LTE (News - Alert) small cells to add capacity to their networks and increase coverage and performance to meet mobile subscribers' bandwidth needs and demand for anywhere, anytime cell service. This integration of small cells into multi-vendor, multi-technology and multi-mode Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) is driving demand for advanced SON capabilities and features. SON enables the effective coordination of time and frequency resources, provides dynamic interference management and reduces costs of initial small cell roll-outs. The integrated pre-verified and pre-optimized SON solution provides mobile operators with a time-to-market advantage.

"Our award-winning eSON software delivers a full range of SON capabilities to LTE small cell eNodeBs, allowing operators to manage interference and optimize capacity in their HetNet deployments," said Yan Hui, CEO of AirHop (News - Alert) Communications. "Our collaboration with market leaders Radisys and Broadcom provides mobile operators with a true third-party end-to-end SON solution and access to Radisys' broad customer base."

"Our partnership with AirHop comes at the right time as mobile operators increasingly opt for a third-party SON solution to enable their small cell deployments," said Todd Mersch, general manager, Software and Solutions, Radisys. "By integrating our TOTALeNodeB small cell software with AirHop's eSON software and Broadcom silicon, we're enabling operators to broadly deploy various types o small cells, from residential to urban, at an accelerated pace. We're excited to see trial deployments already underway."

AirHop's eSON is a cloud-based client-server architecture enabling coordinated optimization across small cell layers as well as between small cells and macrocells. It provides real-time optimization of available radio resources via multi-cell coordination to effectively provide optimal coverage, capacity for each cell, and quality of service for individual users. Radisys' TOTALeNodeB software is a turn-key, deployment proven small cell solution that dramatically simplifies the development and integration of LTE small cells while cutting the typical product development time in half. By integrating AirHop's eSON within its TOTALeNodeB solution, optimized on Broadcom silicon, Radisys delivers a distributed SON solution that enables:

  • Reduced OPEX via automatic discovery, self-configuration and other OSS level SON functions
  • Support for distributed, real-time inter-cell coordination
  • Real-time coordination among multiple cells coupled with interference management and load balancing algorithms
  • Improved system capacity via intelligent radio resource allocation
  • Improved user experiences
  • Access to user equipment measurements defined by existing air-interface

"As a leading provider of residential and enterprise small cell solutions, Broadcom is committed to helping operators and OEMs deliver a better mobile experience and faster data rates while improving network performance," said Greg Fischer (News - Alert), Broadcom Vice President and General Manager, Broadband Carrier Access. "Our collaboration with Radisys and AirHop has resulted in a highly integrated interference management solution enabling OEMs and ODMs to seamlessly deploy high-performance LTE small cells."
