Sweden : VENTYX, GEAB partner to develop one of the world's smartest power networks [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Business software company Ventyx is partnering Swedish utility Gotland Energi AB (GEAB) in a project to develop one of the world's smartest power networks on the Swedish island of Gotland.

Smart Grid Gotland will engage Ventyx deploying a complete Distribution System Optimisation solution covering network control, demand response management, demand forecasting and business analytics to support wind turbines on the island of Gotland, the biggest island in the Baltic Sea.

This will allow large volumes of renewable power and distributed energy sources to be consolidated into the grid while maintaining dependability and enhancing performance.

Apart from GEAB, Ventyx is working with a number of partners on the project and is 75 percent held by Vattenfall, which is also participating in the Smart Grid Gotland project alongside Svenska Kraftnät, Schneider Electric and KTH.

Smart Grid Gotland was launched in order to meet the EU's environment change target to reduce carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2020 and is part funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

It was launched in September 2012 and will last in December 2015.

Head of R&D Portfolio Management, Vattenfall Nordic, Veijo Huusko, said : "Wind power is produced out in the distribution grid and, like solar energy, is highly variable, presenting challenges when it comes to power quality, surveillance and control of the grid. Using industry-leading network management software from Ventyx to create a more intelligent and efficient grid, we can increase the use of renewable energy sources, improve power quality and create added cost-savings for customers over conventional grid technology."
