Cryopraxis® Attends and Sponsors a Workshop of Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

RIO DE JANEIRO --(Business Wire)--

Cryopraxis® will be one of the sponsors of Curso Internacional de Bioengenharia e Medicina Regenerativa, a training course held at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics - UFRJ from June 3rd to 11th.

Professor Shay Soker, PhD, from Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine in North Carolina, USA is the main speaker. He has received his Master's Degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his PhD in Biology from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Dr. Shay has already produced bioartificial organs which could potentially become a therapeutic option for degenerative diseases of high prevalence in our population for which there is not yet adequate therapeutic solutions.

The workshop aims to produce decellularized, extracellular matrices of biological organs (heart, liver and kidney) and repopulate them with cells.

Cryopraxis® shws again its pioneering nature and has indicated interest in the processes and products that may result from this technology.

"Cryopraxis® is constantly seeking cutting edge applied science. Our scientists will attend this workshop and highly consider the vialbility of utilizing this technology," said Eduardo Cruz, CEO of Cryopraxis®.

In 2013, PhD student Lanuza Faccioli from UFRJ did an internship in the lab of Dr. Shay and on this occasion, this event was planned. The participation of several research institutions with a broad level of experiences in the field of tissue bioengineering and the diverse background of participating researchers will allow for a multidisciplinary approach to the establishment of processes and products for public and private sectors.

"The generation of scientific knowledge and technological competence in the field of Regenerative Medicine will ensure advances in medical care, in institutions involved with cell therapy to treat regenerative diseases," said Prof. Regina Coeli dos Santos Goldenberg, coordinator of this workshop.
