Pay parking & utility bills with NDMC's smart card [Mail Today (India)]

(Mail Today (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Now add to your wallet a smart card by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) that would help you pay utility bills to the civic agency. The smart card can be used to pay for parking, water and electricity in the NDMC areas.

The card-holders can recharge them at a minimum rate of Rs 100 and also avail of 10 per cent discount at parking facilities.

Further, if things go as planned, the cardholders can shop in areas like Khan Market and Connaught Place.

"To popularize the scheme, we have a few shops in Khan Market and Connaught Place have shown interest and will provide the facility for the shoppers and they could just swipe the smart card for the payment," said a senior official of NDMC. According to the project director of NDMC O. P. Mishra, "There will be electronic machines where one could swipe the card for paying fees." Besides property tax, electricity, water bills and Barat Ghar bookings, card-holders can pay school fees. "Just like the metro, the users of the NDMC smart card will also get a 10 per cent discount on parking and the minimum recharge of the card would be of Rs 100," the project director said.

The civic body is also planning to make a provision to make it possible to recharge the smart card online. A large usage of the smart card would also reduce the crowd at the billing counters, said the NDMC official.
