New leadership added to NB Power Board of Directors

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 23 May 2014 Release date- 22052014 - Fredericton, N.B. - NB Power is welcoming five new members to its board of directors who bring a wealth of experience in the energy sector, in the nuclear industry and in finance.

The directors were selected using a new independent recruitment process outlined in the Electricity Act. The new directors include Judith Athaide, Charles Firlotte, Mark Reddemann, Barbara Trenholm, and Mike Wilson.

'This new independent process generated tremendous interest from exceptional individuals across North America', said Ed Barrett, Chairman of the Board of Directors for NB Power. 'These five additions - all leaders in their own right - will strengthen our board's ability to provide the vision and oversight required to fulfill the mandate we've been given by government to keep rates low and stable for the long term, pay down a billion dollars' worth of debt while adding more renewable energy to the grid.' The new process of board recruitment was agreed to by government in Spring 2013 and began in earnest last fall with the selection of executive search firm Odgers Berndtson to carry out the search. The firm conducted a two-month long recruitment process using a matrix of board member skills identified as necessary for the utility's future success.

This search culminated in more than 100 applications from leaders across North America. This list was pared down to 12 potential candidates who were interviewed by the Board's executive search committee and the five new directors were then selected from this list.

'Having this level of interest in our process speaks to the strength of the vision we have laid out for NB Power,' said Mr. Barrett. 'Our board now consists of leaders from across New Brunswick and North America united with the common goal of making NB Power a leader among North American utilities. More importantly, we have the team now to drive this company to achieving our smart grid vision for New Brunswick which we believe can be a catalyst for supporting economic renewal in our province.'
