Celcom sees rise in data customers [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Celcom Axiata Bhd is targeting a 30 per cent rise in its data customers from its latest Xpax campaign until August 31.

Its chief marketing officer Zalman Aefendy Zainal Abidin said data users represented 46 per cent of Celcom's total subscribers of six million as at December 31 2013.

He said data is Celcom's main revenue driver now and the company is continuously finding ways to attract more to its customer list.

"We are spending RM1 billion this year to upgrade our network and quality, and as of now, our data and voice network are the best in the country," Zalman Aefendy said.

Celcom's subscribers surpassed 13 million mark in 2013, making it the top industry player in terms of subscribers.

The company's revenue grew four per cent year-on-year to RM8 billion, driven by data and mobile broadband, while non-voice grew three per cent year-on-year amounting to a 34 per cent contribution to revenue.

In mobile broadband, it closed last year with 1.2 million subscribers, while data services contributed 17 per cent to revenue, a 16 per cent growth from 2012.

Xpax is Celcom's main prepaid brand, representing more than half of its 9.4 million prepaid subscribers.

Zalman Aefendy was speaking to reporters yesterday after the launch of its campaign called KAX, where customers will be rewarded with a series of soft-toy collectibles, which resemble a cat and will come in eight different designs dressed in football jerseys. These will be given away free when customers sign up with Xpax.

"Malaysia is a football-obsessed nation with the biggest sporting event of the year just around the corner. This cute and cuddly KAX will bring Malaysians together in celebrating the football fever. It will be their new BFF (best friends forever) when they are neglected by their best friends, husbands or wives because not everyone is a football fan." Customers can get the limited KAX series edition from all Celcom redemption centres, Celcom Blue Cubes and selected Celcom Xclusive starting today, either by being a new customer of Xpax, Celcom First, Celcom Frenz, Celcome Traveller SIM, Celcom PortaWIFI or Celcom Broadband.

Existing customers who want to collect the soft toys can subscribe to the telco's monthly mobile Internet plan or Mobile Internet mBasic, mAdvance or mPro.
