US equipment maker targets oil firms [Business Daily (Kenya)]

(Business Daily (Kenya) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A US equipment and electronics manufacturer Eaton Electric is eyeing Kenya's nascent mining sector for supply of drilling and exploration gear.

Eaton is scouting for contracts to supply equipment such as hydraulic pumps and valves, excavators and drilling rigs to oil and gas explorers and coal mining firms.    The firm says it is focusing on opportunities in ongoing oil exploration areas of Turkana, Titanium mining in Kwale, Coal in Kitui and the expansion of Songo Songo gas field in Tanzania.

"There is potential in Kenya and we are keenly following the oil exploration in the North and coal mining, we are capable of providing  drilling equipment to companies involved  in these activities as well as offer power distribution," said Frank Campbell, Eaton's president for the electrical sector in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Eaton has had a presence in Kenya for the past 10 years, and also has offices in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria. It has a manufacturing base in South Africa for serving other African countries. The company's other manufacturing plant is in Morocco.

"Further, the African growth base rate is expected to be higher than any other region over the next years and that makes the region attractive for business growth," said Mr Campbell.
