Yasser and Ola: The couple who gave birth to FanOs [Saudi Gazette, The](Saudi Gazette, The Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH - The first signs of the success story of married couple Yasser and Ola appeared when Yasser joined the Teachers' College in the northern city of Hail to study computer science. Yasser was not content with the classes, so started a rigorous program to teach himself. He began with computer programming, then moved on to designing and operation systems. He went deep into the world of hacking and protection, dedicating all his time to the computer, Saudi blogger and columnist Mufeed Al-Nuwaiser wrote recently in Makkah daily. In 2006, Yasser Al-Osefer was sent to Britain to obtain his master's degree in the protection of the computer systems. He was not alone in the flight that took him all the away to London. In the seat next to him was his would-be wife Ola, who was only 17 years old. At first sight, she knew she was looking at her future partner. She also realized that they would be talking much about the computer world of which she did not know anything about. She only knew that this world would be her road to Yasser's heart. At the beginning of his married life, Yasser faced a number of difficulties. He was responsible for a young wife and also had to overcome the language barrier. Some of his colleagues looked down on him because he was a graduate of a teachers' college, not a specialized computer institute. Through determination and perseverance, Yasser was able to prove to his colleagues that he was not an easy nut to crack. He soon obtained his master's degree from Cardiff University while his wife had joined University of Wales to study computer engineering. She said the first exam she had to take in her preparatory year was in computer science. She did not do well and did not obtain high grades, which devastated her. She said she was, however, in for a nice surprise. Yasser bought her a laptop and dedicated much of his time to teaching her special technological secrets. Yasser started working on his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of the computer giant Prof. Omar Rana, who specializes in cloud systems, networking and data security. Yasser made strenuous efforts. He published several scientific researches concerning artificial intelligence and protection in addition to hacking and security. The university proposed to him to remain in Britain to open a data security company to extend protection systems to international companies and countries. He turned down the offer because he and his wife had set up their minds to come back to the Kingdom to give birth to FanOs. FanOs is a Saudi keyboard invention, which looks much like an iPad. It was designed by Yasser and his wife, Ola. The device is for children and school students. Their secret was not in the invention of the device, but in its programming sand operation systems. It will enable the parents, the teachers and the school management to control the device from a distance knowing the pages that have been visited. Ola, who was holding FanOs as if it was her baby, said the device will be in the market in the next few months. "Yasser was my husband at night and my tutor in the day.
