Goodwill announces e-waste recycling program [Jacksonville Journal-Courier, Ill. :: ](Jacksonville Journal-Courier (IL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 03--The Springfield-based Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries, with retail and donation operations spanning 37 counties -- including Jacksonville -- has announced a new electronics recycling program with 3S International LLC. The program will kick off with a community e-waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at 1987 Wabash Ave. This is the most expansive e-recycling program under way with any Goodwill agency in the U.S., according to Sharon Durbin, president and CEO for Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries. "Contributing old electronics to Land of Lincoln Goodwill not only helps people do the right thing, but makes it simple to do good for others," Durbin said. "Our trailblazing program with 3S gives consumers peace of mind knowing that their equipment and data are recycled in a secure way that protects the environment, and that each donation supports employment programs that advance the workforce and improves people's lives." Land of Lincoln Goodwill now recycles about 1.4 million pounds of electronics each year, but thanks to 3S International's Blubox technology, administrators anticipate recycling 3 million pounds in the first year of the relationship alone. The company specializes in recycling hazardous LCD and mercury-containing products on a large scale -- while addressing previously unsolvable e-recycling issues. Each Blubox unit can fully recycle 13 million pounds of electronics each year in a safe, secure and sustainable process. "Land of Lincoln Goodwill came to us looking for a solution," said Gina Yob, vice president of sales and marketing for 3S International. "The organization saw an opportunity to expand their e-recycling operation to businesses, schools and other organizations, but needed the right partner to put it into practice. We are one of the only U.S. recyclers with the ability to completely reduce hazardous electronics to tiny pieces and powders. Our technology ensures that all data is securely destroyed and nothing ends up in a landfill or shipped overseas." Accepted items include: Flat screen televisions and computers, phones and handheld devices, office equipment, audio/visual equipment, household electronics and appliances.
