Software Defined Networking (SDN) is attracting widespread attention and investment because it has the potential to virtualize and simplify network operations, which would help utilities meet present demands and future challenges. In describing how utilities communications networks can be designed with SDN in mind, Dr. Cankaya will discuss how this design can also lay the groundwork for utilities implementations of Smart Grid networks.

Dr. Cankaya is a Solutions Architect at Fujitsu Network Communications. He is responsible for developing advanced networking solutions for a wide variety of Fujitsu customers. Dr. Cankaya is an active contributor to the Migration Working Group with the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), which is dedicated to the promotion and adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) through open standards development. Dr. Cankaya is also an adjunct professor of computer science and Telecom Program in electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University.

I am honored to have been chosen to speak at UTC Telecom 2014, Dr. Cankaya said. Software Defined Networking is important for the future of utilities networks. I believe SDN can help utilities to interconnect multi- vendor networks and more quickly adapt their networks to meet changing data demands. I am looking forward to sharing my experience and learnings with UTC attendees.
