Jebel Ali wins Scata Port of the Year’ award [TradeArabia]

(TradeArabia Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DP World's flagship Jebel Ali Port has won for the sixth time the 'Port of the Year' recognition at the prestigious annual Supply Chain and Transport Awards (Scata) 2014.

The award was received on behalf of DP World by Abdulla Bin Damithan, commercial director, DP World, UAE Region, at the Scata 8th gala, attended by hundreds of supply chain industry leaders.

The magazine publisher ITP Business annual gala celebrates the Middle East logistics industry's achievements.  In the event held last week in Dubai, DP World also won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award (CSR) for its outstanding contribution to the UAE community.

The CSR award received by Saeed Al Zari, account manager, DP World, UAE Region, recognises DP World's efforts to operate in a responsible manner in all aspects of its activities, which impact customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the environment.

"We are delighted to have received this recognition for our service excellence and world class facilities for the sixth year," said Bin Damithan.

"As the leading smart port in the Middle East, DP World is taking Jebel Ali to the next level of excellence with its state-of-the-art new Container Terminal 3, set to be the world's largest semi-automated facility when it opens this year.

"Our investment will ensure Jebel Ali continues to meet our customer requirements for additional capacity and efficiency improvements.  It will enhance our role as the gateway for cargo into the GCC, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. We are delighted to receive the 2014 Shipping Port Award and we thank Scata for the honour," he added.

Jebel Ali Port's container capacity will reach 19 million (twenty foot equivalent container units) this year, once the four million TEU capacity Terminal 3 is completed.  Jebel Ali will be able to handle up to 10 of the next generation mega vessels at the same time – the only port in the region able to do so.

The Scata 2014 included 15 categories covering the logistics, sea freight and air cargo sectors.  It recognises those regional and international players that have gone above and beyond in terms of their industry contribution. – TradeArabia News Service ?
