Silver Spring Networks Congratulates Customer Sacramento Municipal Utility District on Peak Load Management Alliance Awards Win

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI), a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, today congratulated customer Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD (News - Alert)) for its recognition for the Outstanding Public-Owned Utility Demand Response Program Award at the 11th Annual Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA) Awards.

"We are honored to see a flagship customer receiving top industry recognition for their efficient, two-way smart grid enabled Demand Response and Customer Engagement program," said Don Reeves, Executive Vice President of Smart Grid Services, Silver Spring Networks. "This industry recognition reinforces how the utility-customer relationship has transformed based on shared information, common environmental goals and informed communications, enabled through smart grid data and delivered with SLA-backed reliability over the standards-based, IPv6 Silver Spring Network."

SMUD has run a broad range of demand side management pilot programs on Silver Spring's networking platform that supported a wide range of in-home devices. SMUD's objective was to provide savings opportunities to customers through granular insights into their energy usage to achieve peak load reduction. Two-way programmable communication thermostats ere used across the Silver Spring Networks' HCM platform and smart grid network to deliver a number of residential and small commercial demand response programs to over 800 customers. In addition, innovative electric vehicle charging and demand response programs leveraged the same network.

"By leveraging Smart Grid technology, we're continually enhancing the customer relationship and delivering tangible value through bill savings that less predictable and reliable approaches cannot achieve," said Craig Sherman, Senior Demand Side Specialist, Sacramento Municipal Utility District. "Our customers have shown they want to engage to get bill savings and feel empowered to do their part to conserve energy, all while we're achieving the required load shed."
