Huge turnout recorded at Gitex Shopper Spring's first day [Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates)]


(Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Buyers seek deals on newly launched smartphones The first day of Gitex Shopper Spring Edition recorded strong turnout despite the fact that it was a working day and people seen coming out of the venue loaded with shopping bags.



The first day response is beyond expectations and most of the customers looking for deals on newly launched smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8 and the Lenovo Vibe Z, top exhibitors told Khaleej Times.

The trend is not new as smartphone category always ranked top during Gitex Shopper, but this time specially because of the new launches, which had happened earlier this month, they added.


Gitex Shopper Spring 2014 was inaugurated by Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The region's biggest consumer IT and electronics retail show runs until April 26 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Excited visitors packed Shaikh Saeed Halls 1, 2 and 3 on the first day of the show, taking advantage of exceptional deals offered by top global brands and regional power retailers' on the latest TVs, smart phones, tablets, and digital cameras, as well as household appliances, gadgets, games and entertainment accessories.

Visitors also enjoyed the fun festival atmosphere that included millions of dirhams worth of prizes being won in promotions, raffles and giveaways including a Limited Edition Honda Accord to be won every day of the show.

"Our exhibitors have put together an unbeatable range of products and special offers and visitors to the show will not be disappointed," said Trixie LohMirmand, senior vice-president, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organiser of Gitex Shopper Spring.

Gitex Shopper Spring 2014 has attracted the biggest names in technology including Acer, Dell, E-City, Emax, HP, Jacky's Electronics, Jumbo Electronics, Lenovo, LG, Max Electronics, Nestle, Nokia, One Mobile, Plug-Ins, Samsung (platinum sponsor), Sharaf DG and Toshiba.

"We see this year's Gitex Shopper Spring as being the year of the smartphone. With major launches happening from Samsung with the Galaxy S5, HTC with the One M8, Nokia with the Android-based X-series devices and Lenovo with the new Vibe X/Z, we expect customers to be spoilt for choice. We expect to sell more smartphones in the four-day event than we will for the next two months combined," said Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky's Electronics.
