Shah Rukh-Salman online wars are pass [News & Interviews] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Till about three years ago, Bollywood fan wars on the internet were mostly restricted to the followers of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Accusations, abuses they stopped at nothing when it came to defending their favourite star. There were even slogans -- 'Salman Rocks, SRK Shocks', and vice-versa.

At the same time, other smaller battles were being fought as well -- Salman vs Aamir Khan, SRK vs Aamir, Salman vs Akshay Kumar, SRK vs Akshay, Aamir vs Hrithik Roshan, and Ajay Devgn vs Akshay, to name a few.

While Salman-SRK fans are continuing to wage a raging war, attention has shifted to the younger brigade. So, you now have Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor's fans taking off at the mere mention of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and R...Rajkumar.

There's an ongoing tiff between Ranveer Singh and Aditya Roy Kapur's cheerleaders as well. While the former cite Ranveer as the next superstar, the latter refer to Aditya's blockbuster Aashiqui 2.

On the other hand, Main Tera Hero's success has given Varun Dhawan's supporters the confidence to proclaim him as the next Govinda. They also feel that he is a far better actor than his Student Of The Year co-actor, Sidharth Malhotra. Not to be silenced, Sid's fans argue how he was the hero in SOTY and how Hasee Toh Phasee was a 'much classier film' than MTH.

While Arjun is often attacked for having everything easy (because he is producer Boney Kapoor's son), his supporters point out how even Ranveer has his connections in the industry. He is also Sonam Kapoor's cousin and his father was also rumoured to have invested in his debut film, they say.

While the names may have changed, the strategy of these fan wars remains the same -- sing paeans of your favourite star, throw some box office data to substantiate it, and then attack the rival star in every way possible. The message is clear -- the new kids on the block are staking their claim over the internet zone. And sooner or later, the box office will reflect this reality.
