MobileHelp® Announces Issuance of U.S. Patent for Health Monitoring

BOCA RATON, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

MobileHelp®, a leader in Mobile Personal Emergency Response System (M-PERS) solutions, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office have issued Patent No. 8,642,573, entitled "Human Health Monitoring Systems and Methods." This patent extends beyond simple emergency response and pertains to a broader ecosystem for health monitoring, and brings the total number of issued patents in MobileHelp's portfolio to nine.

Regular health monitoring offers significant benefit for individuals who are managing a chronic disease or those who simply want to proactively monitor biometrics such as blood pressure, weight, or activity levels. Using the same reliable and secure architecture built for its primary emergency response application, MobileHelp is delivering these types of next generation health monitoring solutions.

To that end, this new patent is issued just two months after the company announced two new health monitoring applications - an activity monitoring application and a medication reminders application - used in conjunction with its PERS solutions and automatic fall detection technology - the Fall Button™. These applications utilize the same hardware equipment already in place, making the new applications a simple, affordable health-monitoring solution for end users.

The new Medication Reminders Application allows customers (along with their authorized caregivers or family members) to manage their medications. The application offers the ability to view important prescription inormation such as dosage, days and times; add new prescription information, set and change medication schedules, and push out a medication reminder alert through the MobileHelp cellular base station.

The Activity Monitoring Application will work in tandem with the MobileHelp Fall Button™, an automatic fall detection pendant which consistently tracks the movements of the wearer. In addition to automatically detecting emergency falls, this new Activity Monitoring Application will track the customer's activity levels on a daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis - and compare those over time. Not only can the customer view their own activity level, this application also allows authorized caregivers or family members to check in through the MobileHelp Connect™ online portal or receive weekly email summaries of activities.

"This latest patent is just one more example of how MobileHelp is leveraging the strengths of our existing cellular and mobile PERS solution and offering our customers the expanded benefits of health and wellness monitoring," said Robert Flippo, CEO of MobileHelp. "It also reinforces our commitment to deliver next generation applications for seniors while continuing to provide best in class emergency response."
