Prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise awarded to Fluidata; Fluidata's innovation in rural broadband delivery sees it win the UK's highest business accolade

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, UK - Fluidata (www.fluidata.co.uk), the data delivery network, has received a prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise - the UK's highest accolade for business success - for its work in delivering high speed broadband to rural areas in the UK.

The award, in the Innovation category, is the latest won by Fluidata highlighting its continued performance and commercial success. Fluidata has also beenlisted on the Deloitte Fast 50, has been in the Sunday Times Tech Track for the last two years and named as one of the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain.

Piers Daniell, Managing Director, Fluidata, said: "To receive this award reinforces that the innovations we have made in rural broadband delivery are beginning to impact the country as a whole. The UK is one of the most connected countries in the world, yet more than 2 million UK households still cannot access 2 Mb/s broadband, something that we are aiming to change." Fluidata identified a need to build a delivery platform that would create a choice of broadband services for rural areas without the need for public funding.

As a result, Fluidata developed its Service Exchange Platform, to provide more competition and create a unique technology platform that interconnects Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the UK, Fluidata has created a network that reaches far into the most poorly served rural areas, bringing high speed Internet connectivity and a choice of broadband providers. By connecting to Fluidata's Service Exchange Platform, ISPs don't need to invest in building new rural networks themselves - hugely costly and geographically challenging.

Connecting to over 16 networks it will continue to add new fibre to the premises (1 Gb/s services), satellite and wireless networks. The building of the platform was a company-wide effort as it required all parts of the business to make it a reality.

Having worked with a number of large telcos such as BT, Telefonica and TalkTalk Business, Fluidata realised that, by pooling the collective buying power of ISPs, micro and rural networks - all on one national platform - everyone would reap the benefits (consumer choice, lower setup costs and quicker return on investment for network operators) with no downsides (expense of setup, monopolies, low marketing and customer up-take).
