Reliance Jio to access 11,000 ATC towers [Mail Today (India)]

(Mail Today (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RELIANCE Jio Infocomm ( RJI), the telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani- led Reliance Industries Limited, an agreement with American Tower Corporation ( ATC) on Monday for setting up its pan- India 4G network.

The move will give RJI access to 11,000 towers of ATC. "We are committed to creating a cuttingedge network for high- speed 4G. Our relationship with ATC will accelerate the rollout of these services across India," RJIL managing director Sanjay Mashruwala said in a statement.

"There is considerable pent- up demand for data, and 4G has tremendous growth potential. We, at ATC India, are delighted to offer our countrywide network infrastructure to help Reliance Jio in its aggressive nationwide roll- out," ATC's chief operating officer B. Ramanand said.

The 4G spectrum is considered to be the future of the telecom industry. It offers data transmission almost four times the speed of 3G and 16 times the speed of 2G. RJI already has an agreement with Sunil Bharti Mittal's Bharti Airtel, Anil Ambaniled Reliance Communications and Viom Network to utilise their infrastructure.

Monday's agreement takes the total number of towers that RJI can utilise for its 4G network to 1,80,000.

As per the deal with Bharti Airtel, RJI will have access to about 82,000 mobile towers while the agreement with RCom enables it to use about 45,000 towers. The deal with Viom Networks gives RJI access to another 42,000 mobile towers.

RJI is expected to launch 4G services in the July- September quarter. RJI holds pan- India broadband wireless access spectrum that can be used for 4G services. Besides, it won airwaves in the 1,800 Mhz band, widely known as 2G spectrum, which is also being used for 4G services worldwide. The company will use both available 4G technologies to provide services.

RJI is the first telecom operator in the country to get a unified licence for all 22 service areas in India. The unified licence, which it received in October, will allow RJI to offer all telecom services, including voice telephony.

RJI can access 1,80,000 towers now for rolling out 4G services (c) 2014 India Today Group. All Rights Reserved. Provided by Syndigate.info, an Albawaba.com company
