Samsung introduces Hindi translation in ChatON [Computing] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: Samsung has introduced a new version of its ChatON app with some features targeted specifically at Indian consumers. The company said that the app now supports "instant" translation between English and Hindi, allowing consumers to chat in the language that is more comfortable for them.

ChatOn is available for Android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry phones. On Samsung Galaxy phones it comes preinstalled. Samsung claims that it has over 200 million ChatOn users.

Apart from adding the support for translation, the new version of ChatOn also brings a host of other new feature.

"The new version supports up to 1GB file sharing, up to 1001 members' group chat, easy location sharing, sent message recall, Indianised anicons (animated icons) and SMS/MMS integration," said a Samsung spokesperson.

Tarun Malik, director of media solutions at Samsung India, said, "With ChatON version 3.5, we have simplified mobile instant messaging while adding innovative features. The app has been updated keeping in mind the needs of the young and socially connected users." While initially ChatON looked like Samsung's response to Apple's iMessage, the Korean company now believes that it can transform the chat app into a platform. On Wednesday, Samsung announced that it has tied up with several media companies as well as e-commerce firms to integrate ChatOn with their offerings.

E-commerce firm eBay will use ChatOn to reach out to more consumers. "Nearly 24% of eBay India traffic is via a mobile device. We are always looking at innovative ways to reach our core target groups and messaging apps like ChatON bring us another avenue to reach new consumers, especially in Tier II/III towns," said Latif Nathani, managing director, eBay India.
