(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Chineme Okafor The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other major and independent petroleum marketers are to collectively inject 436, 239,200 million litres of petrol into the domestic market in anticipation of increased product demand during the Easter celebration.

While the NNPC is expected to supply 293,326,011 million litres of petrol, the major and independent marketers will put in 142,913,189 million litres into the system. The measure is part of a bid to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration across Nigeria, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, said in a statement yesterday in Abuja.

Alegbe stated that the NNPC and its downstream subsidiary, the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), have injected 293, 326, 011 million litres of petrol into filling stations nationwide. He added that besides the NNPC, other major and independent marketers were scheduled to supply an additional 142,913,189 million litres of the product into the system.

"The NNPC, Major Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Nigeria Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) and all other importers of petroleum products are all trucking out petrol from their various marine and inland depots to stabilise the situation.

"In line with the resolve of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to return the country to zero fuel queues at the filling stations across the nation, the NNPC/PPMC is collaborating with relevant stakeholders in the hydrocarbon value chain to wet the nation with petrol before, during and after the Easter celebrations," Alegbe said.

According to him, currently, the country has approximately 17 days sufficiency of petrol at 40 million litres per day consumption, adding that efforts are on to build up the stock to further guarantee energy sufficiency for the country.

Alegbe assured Nigerians that the NNPC is collaborating with other stakeholders to restore normalcy to the fuel supply situation in the country.
