IT Pros Say Managing Manual File Transfer Processes as Frustrating as Sitting in Traffic

LEXINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

A recent survey conducted by Ipswitch of more than 100 IT professionals highlighted the frustration felt with manual file transfer processes. Sixty one percent of respondents reported that manual file transfer was as enjoyable as sitting in traffic when asked to relate it to activities generally seen as unpleasant. According to IT professionals, a trip to the registry of motor vehicles was a distant second place with third being a tie between filing income taxes and their Xbox crashing.

More than 63 percent of respondents expressed frustration with current file transfer processes, noting that it was keeping them from other - often higher priority - IT projects. Twenty-two percent noted that if not for their current file transfer pains, they would be able to provide internal customer assistance more quickly, while another 18 percent said they could be automating repetitive organizational tasks during this time.

Ipswitch's (News - Alert) survey also indicated that issues with file transfer go beyond just operator frustration. More than 40 percent indicated that manual file transfer processes were inefficient and equaled a significant amount of wasted time and money for the IT department. Another 35 percent cited lost productivity as a significant side effect of their file transfer processes, and nearly 32 percent had concerns over the security and potential for data loss.

"The frustration felt by IT departments is very real when it comes to file transfer operations," says Ken Allen, Product Marketing Director at Ipswitch. "The inefficiencies, potential for data loss and constant interruptions to other IT projects has them understandably discouraged. A move to adopt automation into file transfer processes with a centralized managed file transfer system would resolve many of these issues, while ensuring a higher level of data control and efficiency across the organization."
