LaCie admits to year-long malware security breach [Asian News International]

(Asian News International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Washington, Apr 16 (ANI): French hardware company, Lacie, which is a major retailer and tech company, has found itself to be the target of a major security breach by unidentified invaders.

The company confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that malware successfully made its way into their system, accessing sensitive information such as customer names, addresses, email addresses, and payment card numbers and card expiration dates.

According to CNET, LaCie said it started notifying affected customers via letter on April 11, 2014.

The organization that is set to merge with American hard drive maker Seagate, said the FBI informed it about the breach on March 19, 2014.

The hardware company speculated that all transactions between March 27, 2013 and March 10, 2014 were possibly affected.

Along with the FBI, LaCie said it had hired an unnamed forensic investigation firm to help with the investigation as well as display new security measures. Meanwhile LaCie has draped its digital space until the payments framework can be fully restored. (ANI) (c) 2014 aninews.in All rights reserved. Provided by Syndigate.info, an Albawaba.com company
