CSC is announcing a new cloud service called Pouta. The Pouta cloud service is a virtual IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) computing environment, based on CSC's HPC computing infrastructure. Pouta is designed to meet the special requirements of CSC's users. Pouta utilises the computational capacity of CSC's Taito supercluster. This cloud service is meant for all fields of science. Pouta is suitable for challenging research problems that require special applications or customised operating system environments.

The new unique Pouta cloud service allows users to solve computational challenges which have not previously been possible to run on CSC's other systems. Some examples where the Pouta cloud service is especially suitable are research projects in various fields of science requiring complex application stacks, collaborative projects where data is shared between research partners, or applications with a browser-based user interfaces. The users receive dedicated cloud resources which are separated from CSC's other computing environments.

Users can freely administer all of their virtual machines and software in Pouta which makes it possible to deploy the most challenging computing applications. Access to services on virtual machines can be shared with other research team members directly over the Internet. The Pouta service also includes storage capacity. Usage of Pouta requires a CSC user account. Pouta cloud resources can easily be taken into use from the Scientist's User Interface. The service is free of charge for approved research projects.
