Vodafone to deliver IPTV over Dutch FTTH infrastructure [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Dutch arm of UK-based telecoms giant Vodafone Group is launching a domestic IPTV service over its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, thanks to an agreement with open system platforms for video service delivery firm Entone Inc (for the supply of set-top boxes) and systems ingetrator Divitel, according to online journal Lightreading. The deal is seen as a significant leg-up for Entone, which is carving out a niche for itself by striking supply deals with smaller telecoms service providers. Vodafone NL has a mobile user base of some five million customers, and is also promoting IPTV as a bolt-on to its 'Vodafone Thuis' branded FTTH broadband offer, the journal says. Vodafone Thuis offers a range of services, including video-on-demand (VoD) from broadcasters such as HBO, digital video recording (DVR) capabilities and the ability to pause live TV.
