(Newcastle Evening Chronicle (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PARDS WOULD HAVE GONE UNDER OUR REGIME Shepherd: Board in my time would have sacked boss ; Shepherd: Board in my time would have sacked bossPardew wouldn't survive old Toon FR th hl FREDDY SHEPHERD feels that Alan Pardew may not have survived such a turbulent season under the previous regime.

le lo The Newcastle United boss - who goes into the weekend clash at Stoke City looking for his first win in three matches and without a goal in 270 minutes of Premier League action - was backed by Mike Ashley this season, despite headbutting David Meyler at Hull City and a run of three wins in 16 matches.

- cl hi h s and ut u es was b season, Meyler at wins in 16 And Shepherd believes Pardew would have been lucky to stay in his job.

United fans have not vocally expressed a desire to see Pardew leave his post at the moment but scores of fans on social media feel his time is up at St James' Park.

Shepherd though feels that the previous board of directors may not have kept on the former West Ham and Charlton boss.

He told the Chronicle: "I think the board at the time, not particularly me, with Sir John would have had him on his bike.

"Who knows the emotion he was going through? "I like the guy. "I've met him and in normal circumstances you'd certainly have a pint with the guy, he's fine.

"I think he just lost it that day. "Would he have survived if he was at Man U or Chelsea or Liverpool as boss? I doubt it." Pardew has picked up just 13 points in his last 14 games - which is exactly the same total that sacked Norwich Turn to Page 82 FROM BACK PAGE City chief Chris Hughton earned in the same period.

But Shepherd believes the lengthy contract that was signed by Pardew last season has probably helped him stay in employment.

Shepherd said: "He's got six years left on his contract and that must have been an influence.

"But there will be a lot of clauses in there." Now though, Shepherd says that Pardew must get on with the job but accept that he will have to live with his reptutation after striking Meyler during last month's 4-1 win.

The former Geordie chairman said: "The guy has taken a lot of stick.

"The biggest thing is he will never be forgotten for it.

"He will always be 'the guy that headbutted that Hull player.' .

"He's got it for the rest of his life." Pardew has two games left of his touchline ban and will continue at Stoke this Saturday in the Potteries.

He makes his return to the dugout for the trip to Arsenal at the end of the month.
