Samsung's Grand 2 Promotes User Sociability

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos smartphone, officially released into the Kenyan market late last month, seeks to eliminate the 'anti-social' tag people constantly on phone are referred to.

With Group Play feature, owners can now share pictures, documents, games and even listen to songs with friends. The smartphone is however not all play as the customisable My Magazine feature streams news and information according to user preference.

The Galaxy Grand 2 runs the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system which most importantly guarantees a measure of security with appropriate tweeking.

To support the performance-intensive OS, the Grand 2 is supported by a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 Quad-core processor unit, a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset for media interactivity, and 1.5 GB RAM, with an internal memory of 8GB expandable via Microsd to 64GB.

The phone is powered by a Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery with 370 hours standby time and 17 hours talk time. It takes about 24 hours to discharge the replaceable battery with intensive use.

With a colour option of black, white and pink, the Grand 2 -- with dimensions of 146.8 x 75.3 x 8.9 millimeters and a total weight of 163 grams -- guarantees users both portability and powerful connectivity with v4.0 Bluetooth, 42.2 High Speed Data Point Access on the GSM network and Wi-Fi 802.11 dual-band.

All the processing power and connection efficiency the Galaxy Grand 2 boasts of is housed in a plastic body with the back panel having a faux chrome finish frame. The casing is surprisingly sturdy once one gets past the "cheap" look of the smartphone.

The Galaxy Grand 2's 8 megapixels camera makes for pleasant still photo taking and HDR video recording with a full 1080p High Definition playback on its 5.25 inch screen that is sadly not the amoled type, but an ordinary Liquid Crystal Display, which means you can't easily view the display in glaring sunlight or leave it in the sun lest it should get damaged.

On packaging alone, the Sh38,000 price tag for the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is rather hard to justify, but if with the functionality on offer, it is well worth the price.
