(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) United States : Sony develops AV over IP Interface enabling network-based video transmission and synchronous, noise-free switching of HD and 4K video, audio, and meta data Sony is actively developing IP-based approaches for professional video production, and has developed a new AV over IP Interface. This packetizes video, audio, and metadata, enabling real-time transmission between equipment via standard network infrastructures.

Taking use of this technology, Sony configures IP Live Production system in order to increase operational efficiency and to reduce system cost for broadcasting studio and sports live production.

To promote AV over IP Interface to be widely used in various video-production products, Sony has newly developed LSI, and technical specifications that enable the deployment of related FPGAs (Field-programmable gate array). Sony plans to have a licensing program open to manufacturers of video-production products.

Sony has today demonstrated real time transmission and switching of a live 4K broadcast over an IP-based AV routing system, using a new IP Live System Manager, the system s core software and SDI-IP converters built around this new technology.

AV over IP Interface Sony s approach combines the latest IP network technologies with current SDI standard interface for any resolution of video transmission. While conventional systems require multiple different types of cables to carry various signal types (video, audio, reference, metadata and control data), this new approach requires only a single standard network cable passing through conventional network switches. Sony has combined unique pieces of technology with already established standards to achieve reliable, scalable and stable transmission. This new technology supports direct connection of numerous types of production devices onto the IP network. Furthermore, it enables simultaneous transmission to multiple points and real time noiseless source switching, handling SD, HD and 4K video resolutions together. The new IP Live Production system has been designed to be flexible and scalable, since users have the ability to migrate to greater capacities (number of devices) and higher video resolutions including HD to 4K over time.

Licensing Program Launch Sony intends to have a licensing program for AV over IP Interface for manufacturers of video-production products in order to widely promote adoption of this technology. This licensing program will provide Sony s LSI which implements this technology and license to manufacture FPGA IP core.

Sony will actively collaborate with FPGA solution providers. Xilinx will be working with Sony under licensing program to enable the deployment of programmable-based video-production equipment. In addition, Sony will continue to collaborate with other thought leaders in the video over IP solutions space, Altera Corporation and Macnica Americas Inc. as FPGA solution providers, who continue to innovate in next generation video over IP solutions.
