Citrix, Google to bring Windows apps to Chrome OS [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)](ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Virtualisation and cloud vendor Citrix is working with Google to deliver business-critical Windows apps to the search giant's Chromebook platform, based on the Chrome operating system. In an announcement, the two firms said that Chromebook adoption is climbing at the enterprise level, and that they were collaborating so that business Chromebook users could have access to critical Windows applications. "Enterprises have been steadily adopting Google Chromebooks as an easy-to-use and cost-effective alternative to traditional computing platforms. Citrix and Google have been working together since 2010 to ensure our customers have access to enterprise-critical Windows apps in the Chrome environment," said Amit Singh, president of Google Enterprise. Singh added that Google expects more enterprises to re-think their notebook purchasing strategies as a result of Microsoft ending support for Windows XP this month. The two companies will combine Chromebooks for Business with Citrix XenApp, a virtual app delivery solution for HTML5 that delivers Windows apps. And in the hopes of accelerating adoption, Citrix has announced a promotional discount of 25% for its XenApp Platinum edition, which includes the vendor's AppDNA technology. AppDNA simplifies the migration for Microsoft customers from Windows XP to the newest versions, Citrix said. "With the growing acceptance of new computing platforms in the enterprise, like Chrome, we are helping Chromebook users get access to these business-critical apps anywhere and at any time," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, senior vice president at Citrix's enterprise and service provider division.
