Autodesk Unveils Architectural Suite in Nairobi

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Autodesk Africa, which makes three-dimension design, engineering and entertainment software, will formally unveil its building information modelling suite for architects in Nairobi tomorrow.

It will showcase products in building technology used by structural and civil engineers as well. The firm also makes software for other industries including the manufacturing sector and media and entertainment.

"We've got thousands of customers in Kenya. Our specialty product isn't the cheapest but is the most cost-effective in the long term as it improves productivity," said Claire Taylor, Autodesk's marketing manager for greater Africa, told the Star on phone.

The suite being promoted by the firm is a portfolio of inter-operable 3D building design software. It supports building information modelling and computer-aided design based workflows which help "make more informed design and construction decisions".

The campaign to drum up support for professional software for building and construction designs comes as concerns over safety in the industry increase.

Professional bodies including the Architectural Association of Kenya and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya have in the past pointed fingers at quacks who like "cutting corners" as a major reason why buildings collapse.
