NNPC, PPMC, Others Defy Reps On Kerosene Subsidy Probe

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The House of Representatives' investigation on kerosene subsidy regime reached a climax yesterday as the critical stakeholders involved in the product's supply and subsidy disbursement stayed away from the proceeding.

Chairman of the House committee on petroleum (downstream), Rep Dakuku Peterside (APC, Rivers) had on Tuesday issued warning to all the stakeholders to be present at the concluding part of the investigation or risk being labeled as guilty of the allegations against the companies.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) were conspicuously absent during yesterday's public hearing.

Other agencies absent at the hearing were the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, ministry of finance auditors, Trafigura Nigeria Limited amongst other kerosene marketers.

The committee chairman Rep Peterside said: "We would however reach out to agencies that have clarification to make." He said the NNPC, PPMC and other agencies were supposed to be present but that "Where such agencies have clarification to make, I am sure we would engage them for their own version of the story".
