Consolidated Minerals Chooses CommVault to Mine Data Through Simpana 10 Search and Archive Capabilities [Manufacturing Close - Up]

(Manufacturing Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CommVault announced that Consolidated Minerals, a manganese ore producer, has upgraded to CommVault Simpana 10 software to extract greater business value from the company's existing data assets while increasing overall efficiency through the consolidation of costly data processes.

According to a release, as a result, CommVault's email archiving, deduplication and compression tools reduced backup data by more than 300 percent, extending the life of tier-one storage by two years.

CommVault Simpana software underpinned a modern data and information management transformation for Consolidated Minerals, fueled by its need to overcome a variety of information challenges, including managing multi-location data backup, tiering data to less expensive storage, and providing fast data recovery and self- service access for all end users. Additionally, Simpana software alleviated productivity issues caused by data fragmentation, since similar projects across separate parts of the business were recreated when information wasn't archived and available to all users.

Gordon Morris, the company's IT infrastructure manager, said, "Our IT department could see the impact on productivity when similar projects were recreated because the information seemed to have evaporated from organisational consciousness. By upgrading to Simpana 10, we could extract greater business value from the data we already collected and protected, while making the data consolidation process more efficient." The different parts of the business that had been "recreating the wheel" every 18 months can now deduplicate and archive old information, putting it to more efficient and productive use. Email archiving and enterprise search were key to reworking the organisational processes around project management and data analysis. Simpana software's single platform software architecture enabled Consolidated Minerals to move 10 year-old data from expensive storage to a less costly tier, while continuing to provide self-service access.

Rick Theiler, vice president, sales, Asia Pacific theatre for CommVault, said, "Data-driven organizations such as Consolidated Minerals are winning in the marketplace by providing unprecedented access to data they need to be more productive and ultimately more effective. Simpana software's easy but friendly search and archiving technology give enterprises the ability to modernize information management and improve collaboration, leading to better business decisions."
